Last Night's Attendance

Basking in the glory of Chelsea's 2-0 win over Werder Bremen in last night's week one game in the Champions League I took the time to 'surf' the net looking for informed opinion and constructive criticism of last night's performance, not only from Chelsea fans but from rival fans too.

Obviously I found the Chelsea fans take on the game and the performance - some bad, some good - but what about the rival fans?

Well all they could come up with was the amount of empty seats that could be seen from the gantry where the TV cameras are housed.

Last night's attendance was 32,135 and to be fair was 3,000 up on last year's 1st game attendance against Anderlecht. The capacity of the ground is just under 42,000 which is down on last season's capacity due to reburbishments of the family section which is housed in the lower tier of the East Stand.

I didn't go last night simply because of ticket prices. For me and Blueblood88 to have gone it would have raided my wallet to the tune of £96 and thats just for two tickets!!

I had already spent £50-£60 for Saturday's game against Charlton and I am still paying for two season tickets (only two more months to pay, happy days) and for next Sunday's game against Liverpool that will cost another £50-£60. Fortunately Mrs BlueBlood is very understanding, shame about my Bank Manager LOL!!!

Obviously Chelsea hadn't learned the lessons and criticism of last season's campaign. I mean Werder Bremen is hardly a draw, nor was Anderlecht last season, Barcelona will be banged out (even at last night's prices) and unless Chelsea need to qualify against Levski Sofia, then there is no reason why Chelsea CANNOT reduce prices for the last home game in Group A.

At least Chelsea, reduce the prices for kids. Offer concessions for God's sake and then for the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals charge what you 'bleeding like!!!

If Chelsea can offer £25 and concessions for FA Cup and Carling Cup home games for anywhere in the stadium, surely they can do the same for the lesser of the attractive games in the Group stages of the Champions League.
